Under the Affordable Care Act, health plans must cover pregnancy related care for employee's and spouses. However, the law doesn't require the plans to extend maternity coverage to dependent children. Many employer-sponsored health plans don't extend coverage to grandchildren unless the employee is their legal guardian. Even more confusing, your health plan may cover preventative and prenatal care, but not the actual delivery and babies health care costs. Ask your agent about dependent care coverage exclusions.
